Professional Biography

Emily DeWitt joined the Department of Dietetics and Human as a Lecturer in January 2023. Prior to transitioning to this role, Emily worked for many years with Cooperative Extension focusing on community food systems and obesity research. Emily strives to help students draw connections between course content and real-world application, bridging food preparation and food safety knowledge into practice. She is passionate about finding creative methods for leveraging existing projects, partnerships, and other opportunities to enhance student development, preparing them for professional practice, graduate programs, and professional schools. Emily is a registered dietitian who has served as a preceptor and mentor for dietetics students. She is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and serves on the board for both the Kentucky and Bluegrass Academies of Nutrition and Dietetics. When not working, she enjoys reading, traveling, and watching baseball.
