Nasreen Omran
Nasreen Omran, a registered dietitian at CHI Saint Joseph Health in Lexington, earned her bachelor’s in dietetics and completed a dietetic internship at the University of Kentucky. With a passion to learn more, she returned to campus to pursue a master’s degree in nutrition and food systems.
“I chose this master’s program for a few reasons. The first being that it feels like home with the relationships I had built in the department,” said Omran. “The second reason is the strong research emphasis. I wanted to be able to create and work on a project that could potentially influence whole groups of people.”
When asked about her graduate coursework, Omran says DHN 603: Community Program Development has been her favorite course.
“The premise of this course is to design a community program, while considering policy, systems and environmental changes that support behavior change,” said Omran. “I had so much fun creating my community nutrition education program and hope that one day my project may be supported and implemented.”
Unlimited Possibilities
Omran found herself in a place where everything is possible and nothing is out of reach, and she said there have been so many people from UK and the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition who have had an impact on her, including her thesis advisor.
“Dr. Plasencia is an incredible mentor and passionate about helping students reach their fullest potential,” said Omran. “I am so grateful to have her as my advisor!”
