Professional Biography

Lauren Batey is the Program Coordinator for the USDA-funded WiN-WiN (Waste Not, Want Not) project, which aims to reduce food loss and waste while improving nutrition and food security in Kentucky. 

She is a registered dietitian with a master’s degree in Nutrition and Food Systems from the University of Kentucky and is currently a PhD candidate in the College of Communication and Information, pursuing a doctorate in health communication with an emphasis on using technology and social media for nutrition education. 

Her interests include food security, food waste, and the relationship between culture and nutrition-related chronic disease. Through her role with WiN-WiN, Lauren draws on her background in marketing and community nutrition to develop toolkits, outreach materials, and educational resources that promote sustainable food practices, cooking confidence, and health equity.
