Before You Apply

Before applying for our Dietetics Internship, students must complete an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics. A verification signed by the Program Director is required. Students must also comply with the application and screening procedures for the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System

Selection Criteria

The selection committee is composed of the Program Director and appointed DHN and affiliated faculty who will rate the application materials based on the following criteria:

  • Academic ability – overall GPA and science GPA (>3.0 overall GPA preferred but not required)
  • Work and volunteer experience
  • Personal attributes – as evaluated by letters of recommendation and personal statement
  • Student involvement with the profession

Ready to Apply

Follow the steps below to complete and submit your application in the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System by the application deadline of February 15 at 11:59 p.m.

  • Write and include a personal statement, including expectations of the dietetic internship, reasons for choosing a broad general program in relation to your professional goals and short-term and long-term goals.
  • Collect three letters of reference from professionals that are qualified to comment on your academic and/or work ability, potential, personality and character. Two references should be from faculty members and one from an employer.
  • Include your Didactic Program in Dietetics Verification Statement (or intent to complete) by the faculty advisor for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Didactic Programs in Dietetics. Forms can be requested through the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System.
  • Register online for computer matching from D&D Digital. There is a $50 computer matching fee.
  • Submit a nonrefundable $50 application fee (payable to the University of Kentucky) postmarked by February 15 to: University of Kentucky, Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition, ATTN: Aaron Schwartz, Director of the Dietetic Internship, 206H Funkhouser Building, Lexington, KY 40506.

After the Application

The selection committee will then prepare a ranked list of the applicants to be submitted. A maximum of 8 candidates will be matched for acceptance into the Dietetic Internship program. All applicants will be notified of computer matching results by late April. 

Applicants must email the Dietetic Internship Director to confirm acceptance or rejection of a computer match within two days of receiving the appointment.
