Professional Biography
Dr. Shoemaker joined the department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition in Spring 2018 after two years of postdoctoral research on obesity and cardiovascular disease in the Department of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Shoemaker has studied mechanisms of obesity-related cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome. Her research focuses on sex differences in cardiovascular disease. Dr. Shoemaker is interested in pathophysiologic changes in cardiac metabolism with obesity and heart disease in men versus women, and identifying dietary interventions to improve cardiac outcomes.
